Celebrating Captain Rankin Tari From Ambae
This week Air Vanuatu celebrates awarding Captain status to local pilot Captain Rankin Tari from Ambae. This announcement follows press statements made in 2022 where the National Airline confirmed its intentions to support more local Ni Vanuatu pilots to reach Captain status. Tari is now newly appointed as Captain for the local Twin Otter flights throughout Vanuatu.
“We are delighted with Captain Tari’s performance and success and the airline has upheld its promise to encourage and support local pilots to advance” states Acting Chief Executive Officer Mr. Joseph Laloyer. Air Vanuatu currently employs 28 Ni Vanuatu pilots and 17 Ni Vanuatu captains.
Captain Tari qualified for a scholarship and studied flying in Fiji and says that the training was grueling involving a lot of theory as well as flying lessons. Being a pilot was his childhood passion and his advice to others who also dream of flying is they will need to study hard and aim high in school and life and take care of their health. Tari who enjoys fishing and family life when not flying, says he also wishes to especially thank his family and his workmates and instructors for their support.
He shared some inspiration for others stating that “I always get through tough times by studying hard and having a positive mindset and importantly always believe in yourself”
